Cops summon parents of child who threw rocks and nails onto a road in Semporna

KOTA KINABALU: The Semporna district police have summoned the parents of a 12-year-old boy responsible for throwing various objects onto a road, which was circulated on social media through a video clip since Sunday (Jan 19).

Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol stated on Monday (Jan 20) that the police had already talked to the child's parents and had advised them to monitor the child's activities.

The one minute and 59-second video had gone viral, warning motorists about the items found along the road, including large rocks, wood pieces, and nails.

Mohd Sabri mentioned that a police report was filed on Sunday at 6.27pm regarding the incident. The complainant noticed the objects in the morning while driving along Kilometer 20 Jalan Semporna-Tawau on the way to Tawau airport.

"The complainant believed they were purposely placed there by irresponsible parties.

"Fortunately, no accidents involving motorists occurred due to this.

"The complainant, along with a tour bus driver, removed the objects to prevent mishaps for other road users.

The police expressed gratitude to considerate motorists who acted swiftly to prevent incidents and urged the public to report such information via the number 089-782020 or at the nearest police station, Mohd Sabri noted.
