Homestay in Kundasang damaged in landslide


KOTA KINABALU: A homestay structure in hilly Kundasang, Ranau was damaged when a landslide occurred on Thursday (Jan 16).

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident, according to the Fire and Rescue Department.

The department initially received a report at 5.32pm of the incident at Kampung Cinta Mata and the team from Ranau fire station arrived at 5.55pm after travelling 20km.

"After conducting inspection, the team advised residents surrounding that spot to move to a safer place.

“The operation ended at 6.06pm,” said the department spokesman.

Meanwhile, in a separate case in Kota Belud district, a 58-year-old man driving a four-wheel drive was killed in a collision with an eight-tonne lorry.

There were three other victims in the lorry - men in their thirties who suffered injuries.

The department received the report at 8.05pm about the incident on Thursday at Jalan Kelawat there.

“The team extracted the victim stuck in the 4WD using special tools, where he was pronounced dead on location by the medical officer present and his body was handed over to the police for further actions.

“The three victims from the lorry were given preliminary treatment by emergency responders and their case were transferred to the medical officers for further treatment.

“After ensuring no more risks, the operation ended at 9.24pm,” said the spokesman.
