Aerotrain contractors yet to give firm date on service resumption, says Loke

PUTRAJAYA: The contractors repairing the automated people mover system (Aerotrain) at KL International Airport (KLIA) have yet to give a firm date on when it will be operational again, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

“We are at the contractor level now and they have yet to give us a firm date, even though before this they say they can finish it by Jan 31 this year,” said Loke during a press conference at the Transport Ministry on Wednesday (Jan 15).

Loke said the Aerotrains are at the testing phase now.

“Now it is dynamic testing and it will be full testing later. After that, there will be a system integration,” said Loke.

In September last year, Loke had said the Aerotrain will be operational again by Jan 31 this year.

On June 18, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said that the Aerotrain Replacement Project at KLIA is slated to be completed by Jan 31, 2025.

This is three months ahead of the project’s original planned completion date of March 31, 2025.

The airport operator said this expedited timeline was finalised through a contract signed on June 14 between Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MA Sepang), Alstom Transport Systems (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and IJMC-Pestech JV, a joint venture between IJM Construction Sdn Bhd and Pestech Technology Sdn Bhd.

MA Sepang is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MAHB.
