Number of flood victims in Johor now nearly 4,000


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor continues to rise, with close to 4,000 people now seeking shelter in flood relief centres across the state.

According to the Johor Disaster Management Committee, the total number of flood victims in the state stood at 3,973 as of 9am on Monday (Jan 13), an increase from 3,778 recorded at 6pm the previous day.

"As of 9am, there are 3,973 people from 1,113 families seeking shelter in the five affected districts. One more flood relief centre has also been opened, bringing the total number of active centres to 38 statewide," the committee said.

Kota Tinggi continues to record the highest number of flood victims, with 1,313 people from 376 families affected.

Johor Baru follows with 808 flood evacuees, Kulai with 764, Pontian with 595, and Kluang with 550.

The committee added that the weather has been gloomy in all ten districts in Johor, including those not affected by floods, since 4am on Monday (January 13).
