Policeman injured in pursuit of drug suspect in Port Dickson

PORT DICKSON: A policeman suffered light injuries after he was hit by a suspect driving a pickup here, says district police chief Supt Maslan Udin.

He said the 37-year-old suspect was later found to be in possession of drugs and stolen cables.

Earlier, an eight-second clip went viral, showing five police patrol cars pursuing the suspect's vehicle.

Supt Maslan said the incident happened around 1.40am on Jan 1 at Batu 4, Jalan Pantai near here. The policemen were then on patrol duty.

"The suspect was eventually detained near a traffic light junction at Batu 1 Jalan Pantai.

"Upon inspection, my men found the cables hidden in sacks as well as 19g of syabu and 55g of ganja,” he said.

The suspect, he said, was from Hulu Langat in Selangor and had 26 previous records for drugs and other criminal offences.

A urine test carried out on the suspect also returned positive for cannabis (tetrahydrocannabinol) abuse.

The case is being probed under Sections 307, 353 and 379 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, for using criminal force against a public servant and theft, as well as section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Supt Maslan said the suspect has been remanded until Jan 4 to assist in investigations.

Police had, prior to this, arrested two other suspects for their involvement in cable theft.
