Decomposed body found in Banting, missing teen's boyfriend arrested


KAJANG: A decomposed body has been found in Banting and police believe it is linked to the disappearance of a 15-year-old girl earlier this month.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the body was found on Sunday (Dec 28) and added that the victim's boyfriend has been arrested.

"It was found at RTB Sg Changgang (in a decomposed state) and physical verification was unable to be conducted.

"A post-mortem has been conducted at Hospital Banting.

“As of now, three suspects aged 16, 20 and 51 have been arrested and remanded until Sunday (Jan 5). This includes the victim’s boyfriend.

“We are still awaiting the results of a DNA test to confirm the identity of the body,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 31).

It is believed that the results of the DNA test will be known within the next day or two.

The case has now been classified as murder.

Yap Xin Yuan was reported missing on Dec 19 after lion dance practice at a basketball court in Batu 11 Cheras.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Yap's family members provided DNA samples to police following the discovery of the body.

"However, they still hope she will turn up safe and reunite with her family," a relative was quoted as saying.
