Ayer Keroh crash: Dr Wee extends his condolences to family of victims, calls for thorough probe

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has extended his condolences to the families of the victims involved in the tragic accident on the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh on Monday (Dec 23).

"This incident is deeply saddening for all Malaysians, including myself," Dr Wee expressed on Facebook on Tuesday (Dec 24).

"According to media reports, initial investigations found that the accident was caused by the right front tyre of the lorry detaching and blocking the middle of the highway.

"Therefore, I hope that the relevant authorities will establish a task force or a special team to investigate this incident more thoroughly, and it is crucial to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."

Dr Wee highlighted a special report published by Sinar Harian on Tuesday (Dec 24) concerning fatal accidents involving heavy vehicles and emphasized its importance.

"A total of 825 fatal accidents involving lorries were recorded in the first 10 months of this year, with an average of three lorry accidents per day," he noted.

This information was revealed by the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

"It is a worrying trend," added the MCA president and Ayer Hitam MP.
