PM: Musa’s governorship sealed by King’s consent

IPOH: Tun Musa Aman was appointed as the 11th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and in accordance with the Sabah Constitution, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“The Prime Minister is briefed (on the appointment) and knows about it. But for this Prime Minister, he also knows about the Constitution and his limitations.

“If the Yang di-Pertuan Agong consents, I accept it and pray that Musa will become a good Yang di-Pertua Negeri for Sabah,” he said.

Anwar also pointed out that the decision to acquit Musa – the former Sabah chief minister – was in 2020.

“(It was) when Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the prime minister, so what’s the issue? What are they crying about, as if it’s an issue.

“If there’s a case, we will bring (to court). If none, then case closed,” he said when asked to comment on Musa’s appointment.

There had been talk swirling over Musa’s appointment as the new Sabah Governor as he had been previously charged with corruption and money-laundering.

In June 2020, Musa Aman was acquitted and discharged of all 46 criminal charges linked to timber concessions contracts in the state after the prosecution withdrew the charges.

Musa, 73, received his instrument of appointment on Dec 17. His appointment takes effect from Jan 1, 2025, until Dec 21, 2028.

He replaces Tun Juhar Mahiruddin whose term expires this Dec 31, after 13 years in office.
