Nursery worker detained for suspected abuse of baby

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman has been detained over alleged abuse and mistreatment of an 11-month-old baby boy at a nursery in Puncak Alam, Selangor.

Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said the 24-year-old woman, who has been working at the nursery for three years, was arrested at district police headquarters at 6.50pm on Saturday (Dec 14).

He said police received a report from a man who found bruises on his son's cheeks and right ear after picking him up from the nursery at 6.15pm on Friday (Dec 13).

"The man was told that the bruising was caused by his child falling off a table at the nursery," he said in a statement on Monday (Dec 16).

Supt Hafiz said the man lodged the report after receiving a call from the nursery supervisor, who claimed that one of the employees caused the bruises, adding that the baby was subsequently taken to Hospital Sungai Buloh for treatment.

He said police also obtained CCTV footage and had recorded statements from four people in the course of the investigaiton.

The woman has been remanded until Wednesday (Dec 18) for investigation under Section 31(1)(A) of the Child Act 2001. – Bernama
