Manager remanded over 'title for sale' probe

MELAKA: A 54-year-old manager of a private firm in Selangor has been arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting bribes totalling RM375,000 from a businessman to secure him a "Datuk Seri" title.

The arrest was made when the suspect was summoned for questioning at the state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Alai here at about 5.10pm on Monday (Dec 16).

The anti-graft body had obtained a three-day remand order at the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Dec 17) to investigate the case under Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.

It is learnt the suspect had convinced the local businessman that he could secure the title awarded by another state before demanding the money as kickbacks.

However, the businessman was not conferred the award despite paying the sum.
