Selangor Pakatan calls for political stability amid leadership talk

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Pakatan Harapan urges the halting of any action that would disrupt the state’s political stability and administration.

The statement was made after reports that Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz plans to leave Umno for PKR and could be appointed as the next Selangor Mentri Besar.

Pakatan Selangor said the reports have caused unease among the people of Selangor.

"Selangor is known as a developed state and is the largest contributor to Malaysia's GDP. The progress of Selangor is the result of political stability in Selangor and the people's trust in continuing to support the Pakatan and unity government during the last state election,” said in a press statement on Monday (Dec 16)

It said that the state had made strides under the leadership of Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and state executive council members.

"As stability is paramount, any actions must prioritise the interests of the state and the people of Selangor and should not be driven by personal or certain group interests," it said.

"The Sultan of Selangor, upon handing over the letter of appointment to Amirudin, expressed his wish that the state's current administration to remain until the end of its term, explained how important political stability is in the state of Selangor," it added

It also urged the Selangor state government to continue focusing on providing services and assistance to the people regardless of the rumours.

The statement was signed by Selangor Pakatan information chief Abbas Salimi Che Adzmi@Azmi, and Selangor Pakatan assistant information chiefs Halimey Abu Bakar and Wong Siew Ki.

Speaking at a Christmas Open House event on Dec 14, Amirudin said that he would continue to prioritise maintaining stability in the state and that there would be no changes in his administration amid the rumours.

He also dismissed claims suggesting that he may step down as the Selangor Mentri Besar before the end of his term.

On Sunday (Dec 15), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that he had spoken with the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister about his potential membership in PKR. Anwar stressed that the party never actively recruits individuals but welcomes discussions initiated by interested parties.
