Foundation aims to help set up Sabah's first paediatric hospice

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah may soon have its first paediatric hospice if the Osimal Foundation’s vision becomes a reality.

“We hope the state government will support this vital initiative to enhance paediatric care in the state,” said foundation trustee Datuk Nellie Sikodol.

Osimal Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by former chief justice of Malaysia Tun Richard Malanjum, is collaborating with the Malaysian Association of Paediatric Palliative Care (Mappac) to achieve this goal.

Sikodol was speaking after a ceremony where the foundation presented essential medical equipment to the Sabah Women and Children Hospital’s Paediatrics Department here.

The donation includes two feeding pumps and a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine, valued at RM20,000.

The items were handed over to Paediatrics Department head Dr Heng Hock Sin on Monday (Dec 16).

“We will be donating one more feeding pump to the Paediatrics Department of the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan,” added Sikodol.

She thanked benefactor Lo Kui Foh for making the contribution possible.

“Osimal Foundation will continue to support the welfare and health of Sabah’s children, particularly those battling chronic illnesses.

"We hope this contribution helps improve their care and treatment,” she said.
