Johor KPDN raids premises suspected of selling counterfeit goods


JOHOR BARU: Four premises suspected of selling counterfeit goods at a shopping centre here have been raided by the Johor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

Johor KPDN director Lilis Saslinda Pornomo said the enforcement team conducted the raid on Monday (Dec 9) at noon following public complaints and information about the sale of counterfeit items at these locations.

"During the raid, officers discovered a range of suspected counterfeit items, including clothing from various renowned brands.

Three male employees at the premises were detained for further investigation. The estimated value of the confiscated items from all four premises is RM11,768," she said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 11).

Lilis Saslinda added that the enforcement team seized a total of 1,479 clothing items, including shirts and trousers bearing brand names such as Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Nike, Lacoste, Puma, and Levi’s.

"All four premises are suspected of violating the Trade Marks Act 2019 by possessing, controlling, or trading items with falsely applied registered trademarks. The four premises have been investigated under Section 102(1)(c) of the Trade Marks Act 2019," she said.

She added that as of Dec 9, the Johor ministry has taken action on 66 cases under the Trade Marks Act 2019, with the total value of seized goods amounting to RM320,435.60.

"The ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting consumers and upholding intellectual property rights, urging the public to report suspicious activities to the authorities for swift action," she said.

The ministry has also set up multiple complaint channels, including a WhatsApp line at 0198488000, the e-aduan portal at http://eaduan.kpdn.gov.my, the call centre at 1-800-886-800, and the Ez ADU KPDN application.
