PETALING JAYA: Two rivers in Pahang have surpassed danger levels, with four warnings and 11 alerts issued following continuous rainfall since Monday (Dec 9), Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
Sungai Belat in Sri Damai, Kuantan, recorded a water level of 5.08m, exceeding the danger threshold by 0.08m.
The situation was accompanied by drizzling rain, totaling 1mm, as at 6am Tuesday (Dec 10).
Sungai Luit in Kampung Subuh, Maran, recorded a water level of 29.17m, which is 2.17m above the danger level, with the water level continuing to rise.
Several other rivers in the state are at warning levels, including Sungai Kuantan in Bukit Kenau, Kuantan, where the water level is 21.42m, 0.67m above the warning level.
In Cameron Highlands, Sungai Ringlet in Pekan Ringlet shows a water level of 134.41m, exceeding the warning threshold by 0.25m.
Both rivers are also showing an upward trend in water levels.
Additionally, Sinar Harian reported that there are 11 rivers in Pahang currently at alert status.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a "danger" level continuous rain warning for Terenggany (Hulu Terengganu, Marang, Dungung and Kemaman) and Pahang (Kuantan and Pekan) until Wednesday (Dec 11).
MetMalaysia also said a severe continuous rain warning has been issued in Kelantan(Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu), and Pahang (Jerantut, Maran and Rompin) until Wednesday.
It also said continuous rain was expected to occur over the states of Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik and Baling), Perak (Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta and Kampar), Kelantan (Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu and Bachok), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera), and Johor (Segamat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi) until Wednesday.
