A WOMAN died in a freak incident after her saree caught fire while she was cooking, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Identified only as Nagaletchumi, the 48-year-old resident of Tamil Nadu, India, was apparently using a kerosene stove for cooking and had just filled it up.

She did not notice that some of the fuel had splashed onto her saree. When she lit the stove, the garment caught fire as well.

The fire spread all over the saree and rapidly engulfed her in flames.

Family members put out the fire and rushed her to the hospital but she died of her injuries later.

> The ceiling of a classroom in a Tamil school in Klang, Selangor, collapsed but fortunately no one was injured, Malaysia Nanban also reported.

It happened on Friday morning when the students were all gathered at the school hall for an assembly.
