Police to investigate 114 individuals for making fake calls during flood crisis

PASIR MAS: Police will track the 114 individuals who made fake calls about floods once the disaster ends.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said investigation papers have been opened nationwide and involve not only Kelantan, reported Sinar Harian.

"Right now, we are focusing on the flood issue. However, once the flood is over, we will track down those who made the fake calls, as this action is to teach the community a lesson.

"In Pasir Mas alone, we received 114 fake flood-related calls out of 1,987 calls," he said during a press conference at the Repek Police Station here on Sunday (Dec 8).

Earlier, Ayob Khan, accompanied by Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, inspected the state's flood situation.

He said the individuals involved in the fake calls would be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. They can be fined RM50,000, imprisoned for one year, or both if convicted.
