Najib’s release a standing agenda for Barisan

KUALA LUMPUR: The release of Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been a constant agenda in every supreme council meeting, says Barisan Nasional chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He reaffirmed that Barisan will continue its fight to secure the former premier’s release despite the challenges faced.

“Bossku is always an agenda in every supreme council meeting of Umno and Barisan.

“While we face obstacles, which his family also understands, we will not stop fighting for him,” Ahmad Zahid said, referring to Najib, who is currently serving a prison sentence after being convicted of corruption.

“There are things we can share with all and things we cannot share (here), but never for a moment have any of us in Barisan agreed that he should be behind bars.“I am sure the time will come when Bossku is released from prison,” Ahmad Zahid said at Barisan’s golden jubilee celebration here yesterday.

Najib’s son, Datuk Mohamad Nizar, who also attended the event, expressed gratitude for the continued support shown to his father by Barisan members.

“I appreciate the solidarity for my father. I hope he will get a fair trial – that’s the most important thing. I am confident he is in the right, and I hope he will be released sooner rather than later.

“It is not something that can be bulldozed through as there are many hurdles. It will take time,” he added.
