BUTTERWORTH: An 18-year-old passenger died after the car he was travelling in crashed into the divider at the Sungai Dua toll plaza on Friday morning.
A spokesman for the State Fire and Rescue Department said the driver lost control of the car, which skidded while heading southbound, and collided into the divider.
"The department received a distress call from the public regarding the accident at 9.44am," said the spokesman.
He said that upon the firemen’s arrival, two other victims — the driver and another passenger, aged 22 and 18, respectively — had already been rescued by members of the public. However, the deceased was trapped in the rear passenger area.
"The deceased was successfully extricated and later confirmed dead by medical personnel," he added.
The victim's body was handed over to the police for further action.
