Yellow alert reactivated ahead of continuous rain expected from Sunday

PETALING JAYA: After a few days of relief, the yellow alert for continuous rain has been reactivated for states on the north and east coast of the peninsula from Sunday (Dec 8).

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 1pm on Thursday (Dec 5), continuous rain at alert level is forecast for Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik and Baling), and Perak (Hulu Perak) from Sunday until Wednesday (Dec 11).

The entirety of Kelantan and Terengganu is also expected to experience continuous rain.

Continuous rain is also expected to occur over Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Jerantut, Maran, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin), Johor (Mersing and Kota Tinggi) from Monday (Dec 9) until Wednesday (Dec 11).

The east coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu as well as parts of Kedah and Pahang saw heavy floods last week, with over 235,700 people affected at one point, more than during the floods of 2014, which affected some 500,000 nationwide.

Malaysia is currently experiencing the Northeast Monsoon.
