PETALING JAYA: The wife of a teacher known as Cikgu Din, who was battling stage-four cartilage cancer, passed away on Monday night.

The heartbreaking news was shared by Cikgu Din, whose real name is Mohamad Izzudin Izhar, 34, via a message on WhatsApp.

“My wife took her last breath at 9pm on Monday (Dec 2). I apologise if there was any wrongdoing on my wife’s part and if there are any debts (left by her), please let me know,” he was quoted by Sinar Harian.

The funeral prayer for the late Nur Atiqah was held at Masjid Putra, Taman Desa SBJ Putra, Pasir Pekan, before she was laid to rest at the Kampung Baru Islamic Cemetery in Tumpat on Tuesday (Dec 3).

It was reported that his wife, Nur Atiqah My Yusoff, 30, who was battling stage-four cartilage cancer, passed away at 9pm at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) in Kota Baru.

Last October, a Facebook post from a netizen revealed that Cikgu Din was deeply worried and hoped to be transferred to Peninsular Malaysia to be closer to his wife, who was fighting for her life against cancer.

The teacher, who worked at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Ming Wok, Kanowit, Sarawak, was reportedly commuting between Sarawak and Kota Baru, Kelantan every two weeks to care for his wife. He later applied for a transfer when her condition became critical.

In response, the Education Ministry held discussions with the State Education Departments in Sarawak and Kelantan and agreed to temporarily place Cikgu Din in a school near his wife.
