WAPC strengthens Malaysia-China relations, says Dr Wee

KUALA LUMPUR: The 5th World Association Presidents' Conference (WAPC) will enhance Malaysia-China relations for the next half-century, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said this year's conference, themed "Promoting Trade Liberalisation, Driving Economic Globalisation", will serve as a platform to explore Malaysia's potential in transformative industries.

He said that key leaders and experts will provide insights on various subjects, such as technological innovation and the digital economy, with discussions centred on Malaysia's MyDigital blueprint and advancements in artificial intelligence, fintech, and e-commerce.

Dr Wee also said that the conference will also spotlight opportunities within Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap, which prioritises renewable energy sectors like solar, wind, and hydrogen.

In his speech at the conference's opening ceremony on Monday (Dec 2), Dr Wee also said that the WAPC will also explore cutting-edge solutions in biotechnology and healthcare.

He added that the discussions will extend to industrial development and the halal industry, focusing on the global halal market, valued at over US$3 trillion (RM13.34 trillion).

Dr Wee then said that there is significant potential for halal-certified Chinese businesses to collaborate with Malaysian counterparts.

Additionally, the conference aims to enhance cultural and tourism exchanges, with a focus on education, the arts, and heritage preservation, to strengthen people-to-people connections.

These sessions are anticipated to not only highlight Malaysia's economic potential but also deepen discussions on how Malaysia and China can complement each other in the global marketplace.

Dr Wee then said that as a founding political party in Malaysia, MCA has consistently strived to boost trade, cultural exchanges, and interpersonal ties with China.

He added that MCA has been instrumental in initiating diplomatic efforts and supporting business collaborations, acting as a bridge between the two nations.

Dr Wee said hosting this conference at Wisma MCA paid tribute to the party, adding that the conference serves as a catalyst for action.

This conference is being held for the first time outside of China and is co-hosted by MCA, the Malaysia-China Friendship Association, and the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia.

These sessions are expected to provide targeted networking opportunities for approximately 700 entrepreneurs from Malaysia and China.
