Teenager nabbed trying to steal from Tawau mosque

A teenager was caught trying to break into a mosque donation box in Tawau on Sunday (Dec 1).

The 15-year-old was discovered attempting to take money from the box at the Bandar Sri Indah mosque using a screwdriver before he was apprehended.

Tawau OCPD Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said a man who was going for prayers saw the incident and called others in the area to help capture the boy.

"They then handed the boy over to police who were patrolling at that time," he said.

The suspect was detained with some cash, which police believe was stolen, he added.

ACP Jasmin said the case is being investigated for theft, and if convicted, the offender could be jailed for up to 10 years, fined, or whipped.
