Bicycle dispute escalates into violent attack in Tawau

KOTA KINABALU: A man was attacked with sticks and a machete in Kampung Titigan after a disagreement involving bicycles on Saturday (Nov 30)

Tawau Police Chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said it began when the victim, who was in his 30s, confronted the suspect.

The victim alleged that the suspect’s nephew was harassing his nephew because of a bicycle.

ACP Jasmin said the conversation quickly turned into a heated argument, and the suspect lashed out and hit the victim.

“Shortly after, the suspect returned with four others, armed with sticks and a machete, and assaulted the victim, injuring his hands and face,” he said.

Police arrested the main suspect, a foreign national, a few hours later. They also seized the weapons believed to have been used in the attack.

Authorities are still searching for the other attackers involved.

ACP Jasmin said the case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which addresses causing harm with dangerous weapons.

He also urged the public to avoid taking matters into their own hands

"Let’s resolve disputes through proper channels instead of resorting to violence," he said.
