ALOR SETAR: Kedah is seeing dangerously high water levels, with six of the 29 rivers in the state hitting the breaking point. As of 2pm yesterday, Sungai Titi Kerbau in Pendang, Sungai Perik in Padang Terap, Sungai Anak Bukit in Kota Setar and Sungai Padang Terap, Sungai Bata and Sungai Laka in Kubang Pasu have reached dangerous levels, necessitating the immediate evacuation of those in the surrounding areas.

Dam levels are on the rise too.

Muda Agricultural Development Authority (Mada), in a statement, said the levels at Muda Dam was at 126.8%, Ahning Dam at 98.16% while Pedu Dam was at 65.43%.

“We have started to divert excess water through existing irrigation and drainage infrastructure since Tuesday,” the statement said.

In Perlis, Sungai Korok in Padang Besar has reached dangerous level.

Meanwhile, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has cancelled its MySawasdee Special Train between KL Sentral and Hat Yai in Thailand from yesterday because of the weather conditions in northern Peninsular Malaysia and southern Thailand.

“The tracks between Padang Besar and Khlong Ngae are flooded. The affected passengers will receive a full refund,” it said.
