KUALA LUMPUR: Seat negotiations for Perikatan Nasional for the Johor state election have yet to be concluded due to overlapping seats among component parties, although more than half have already been resolved.
Perikatan information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said discussions were still ongoing despite significant progress in the allocation of constituencies.
“More than 50% of the seat negotiations have been resolved.
“Those without overlaps are settled. Those with overlaps, we agreed to continue discussions tomorrow to finalise the remaining matters,” he said when met at the Pas headquarters on Tuesday (June 22) following a meeting to discuss the way forward for the opposition pact for the state election.
He added that the process involved four parties within the coalition, including Pas, Bersatu, Gerakan and Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP).
Annuar, who is also PAS deputy election chief, said that discussions on the use of the PN logo were still ongoing and had not yet been finalised.
“We are still discussing the name and related matters. It will be announced once everything is completed,” he said, adding that a full announcement on seat distribution is expected before Saturday, with a target to finalise details by Thursday.
He also noted that two newly associated parties, Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan) and Pejuang, have yet to be included in the discussions.
He added that a meeting to continue the seat negotiations will take place tomorrow at 10am.
Meanwhile, MIPP president P. Punithan said Perikatan will contest in all 56 state seats.
The Election Commission (EC) has set July 11 as the polling day for Johor, with nominations to take place on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
