Purse dispute sparks bloody Jasin brawl: Two men critically injured

JASIN: A dispute over a woman's purse escalated into a violent street fight between two groups, leaving two men critically injured.

Jasin OCPD Supt Lee Robert said the incident occurred at about 12.10am by the roadside near a bus stop on Halan Gapam in Bemban on Tuesday (June 23).

He said the confrontation began when several men approached a 19-year-old youth, demanding the return of a purse belonging to a woman known to the assailants.

"One of the men allegedly slapped the youth, triggering a heated argument," Supt Lee said.

"The youth's elder brother then intervened, which caused the confrontation to spiral into a full-blown brawl between the two groups."

He said a 21-year-old man suffered severe injuries, including swelling to the head, brain haemorrhage, a fractured neck, a cracked skull and a laceration to his left ear.

"Another victim, aged 28, sustained a brain haemorrhage, fractures to his left wrist and left leg, a dislocated elbow, as well as bruising to his left arm.

"Both victims are receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka and remain unconscious due to the injuries sustained," he said on Tuesday(June 23).

Supt Lee said police believed six men were involved in the fight and efforts to trace and arrest all the suspects were ongoing.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means and Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with a weapon.
