Negri's Ulu Bendul Park closed till Dec 15 over suspected leptospirosis cases

SEREMBAN: The Ulu Bendul Recreational Park has been closed temporarily until Dec 15 after eight cases believed related to leptospirosis were reported there in recent days, says Negri Sembilan Health director Datuk Dr Harlina Abdul Rashid.

She said the authorities received three reports on Nov 19 when three members of a family fell ill following a visit to the popular park on Nov 10.

"The three had come down with fever, vomiting and diarrhoea after visiting the park and sought treatment at the Sendayan health clinic.

"We received five more such cases between Nov 10 and 16, and all of them visited the park recently," she said in a statement on Friday (Nov 29).

Dr Harlina said one individual had to be warded while the others were given outpatient treatment.

She said clinical samples have been sent to the National Public Health Laboratory for testing and verification.

"We have also collected samples from the park for testing.

"Control and prevention measures have also been taken by relevant agencies and we have decided to close the park till the middle of December," she said.

Dr Harlina advised the public to maintain cleanliness and hygiene when visiting recreational areas and anyone falling ill should immediately seek treatment at a health facility.
