NGO calls on govt to respect Pahang Ruler's call to ban vape in Malaysia


PETALING JAYA: The government should respect Pahang Ruler Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah's call for electronic cigarettes or vapes to be banned in Malaysia, says the Consumers Association of Penang.

In a statement Monday (Nov 18), CAP's education officer NV Subbarow also said that the NGO welcomed His Majesty's call as it could help save lives.

"The Health Ministry, without any delay, should respect His Majesty's call for a ban on vape in Malaysia," Subarrow said.

Earlier Monday, Al-Sultan Abdullah had said that the government should consider banning vapes completely.

His Majesty said the recommendation came in response to concerns over the increasing abuse of drugs in His Majesty’s state, especially among the youth, based on statistics from the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

“These vape devices are harmful to health.

“I will express to the government that vaping should be banned completely.

“There is no need for further consideration, not only in Malaysia but globally,” said His Majesty.

Al-Sultan Abdullah made these remarks during the 2024 Pahang Maahad Tahfiz Excellence Award ceremony at a hotel in Kuantan.
