Trailer driver dies after crashing with another trailer in Perak

IPOH: A 32-year-old trailer driver has died after his vehicle struck the back of another trailer, sliding about 100 metres downwards on the left side before crashing into a house at KM47 of the Ipoh-Lumut road.

Perak Tengah OCPD, Supt Hafezul Helmi Hamzah, said the incident occurred at around 11.15pm on Saturday (Nov 16).

He said the accident is believed to have happened when the victim, who was driving a trailer transporting cement from Seri Iskandar to Gelung Pepuyu, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another trailer carrying recycled paper that was parked by the roadside.

"The second trailer then collided with another car that was also parked by the side of the road.

"As a result of the collision, the trailer carrying cement slid forward about 100 metres and crashed into the garage of a house located on the left side of the road," he said in a statement on Sunday (Nov 17).

Supt Hafezul added that although the road was wet, the weather conditions were fine, but there were no street lights in the area where the accident occurred.

He also mentioned that there were no CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity.

"The victim sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. A post-mortem examination determined that the cause of death was polytrauma injury secondary to a motor vehicle accident.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigation officer, Inspector M. Maheswaran, at 010-7005051, or the nearest police station.

He also advised the public to exercise caution on the road, obey traffic rules, and avoid rushing while driving.
