SELAYANG: 'Insp Sheila' has been discharged and acquitted by a magistrate's court of a charge of insulting the modesty of a lawyer last year.

Magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni made this decision after the alleged victim, P. Taneswaran, 41, refused to testify against the woman, whose real name is Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, 36, reported Sinar Harian.

On June 26 last year, Sheila had pleaded not guilty to a charge of insulting Taneswaran.

The offence was alleged to have been committed in Taman Sri Gombak at 1pm on June 15 last year.

The charge was filed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum sentence of five years' imprisonment or a fine or both.

The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurilya Ellyna Azmal.

However, Sheila still faces two other cases, including threatening a woman, M Silverkoomarie, 70, with the intent to cause fear at noon on the same date and location.

She is charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment or a fine or both if convicted.

She was also accused under Section 509 of the Penal Code for improperly mentioning a police rank to Lance Corporal Abdul Arif Farhan Abdul Razak with the intent of insulting his dignity at the same location at 1.25pm on June 15 last year.

Sheila's lawyer, M. Manoharan, said his client was released from the charge after the victim informed that he wanted to withdraw the report he had made.
