Fake UM certs? Report them, says varsity

PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) has detected fake academic certificates using its name, urging the public to remain vigilant and report such documents to their management.

“We want to emphasise that UM has not issued these certificates, and this is an act of fraud that could damage the reputation of our institution.

“We urge everyone to exercise caution with any suspicious documents. If you receive or encounter documents with questionable authenticity, please report them to UM at corporate@um.edu.my immediately,” the university said via a Facebook post on Monday (Nov 11).

In August, the Higher Education Ministry said stern action will be taken against any public universities and private higher education institutions or individuals involved in the sale of academic certificates.

The Higher Education Ministry also said that the public can check the qualifications and information related to recipients of honorary and doctoral degrees through the GREaT KPT portal via https://dohe.mohe.gov.my/award/
