Driver of overturned Army transporter tried to avoid trailer that suddenly changed lanes

KUALA LUMPUR: The Army confirms that one of its armoured car transport vehicles was involved in an accident at KM35.2 near the Genting Sempah tunnel heading towards the Gombak toll plaza.

The vehicle was transporting two armoured vehicles belonging to the 7th Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment when the incident occurred at about 4.45pm on Thursday (Nov 7).

"The vehicle was part of a six transport vehicles carrying 12 armoured vehicles from the Kem Batu 10 in Kuantan to Kem Syed Sirajuddin in Gemas untuk for elevated combat training.

"Initial report revealed that the transport vehicle was trying to avoid a trailer, which suddenly changed lanes.

"Due to the slippery road due to rain, the driver of the transport vehicle lost control, causing it to swerve into the opposite lane.

"There was damage to the prime mover of the transport vehicle but the driver was not injured while the armored vehicles were not damaged," the Army said in a statement on Thursday.

The other transport vehicles in the convoy managed to continue their journey to Kem Perdana Sungai Besi.

"Efforts are being made to tow the damaged vehicles and to transport the two armoured vehicles involved in the accident.

"We will form an investigation board to investigate the real cause of the accident," it said.
