Cops arrest mother of children who fell from Tampoi apartment

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a 37-year-old foreign woman whose two children fell from the 12th floor of an apartment building in Tampoi, leaving one dead and the other seriously injured.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received a report about the incident at about 8.27am on Sunday (June 7).

He said one of the children died at the scene, while the other sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

"Police arrested the woman, who is the mother of the two victims, aged eight and 10, at about noon the same day," he said in a statement here on Monday (June 8) night.

Comm Ab Rahaman added checks found that the suspect had no criminal record, while a drug test on her was negative.

He said that police have obtained a four-day remand order until Thursday (June 11) against the suspect for investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child abuse, neglect, abandonment or exposure.

He added that several witnesses have also been called in for their statements.

Comm Ab Rahaman urged the public not to speculate on the case and appealed to anyone with information to contact the nearest police station or the Johor police hotline at 019-279 2095 or its operations room at 07-221 2999.
