JOHOR BARU: A 28-year-old teacher is set to be charged at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday (June 9) with five counts of committing sexual assault against a child and two counts of possessing obscene materials.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said police received a report at about 9pm on May 21 from a 37-year-old local woman alleging that her child had been molested by a teacher in the Seri Alam area.
Acting on the report, police arrested the suspect, a local man, at about 10.30pm on the same day for further investigations.
He said an initial urine screening test found the suspect negative for drugs, while checks also showed that he had no prior criminal record.
“The suspect was remanded for five days from May 22 to 26 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The investigation paper was subsequently completed and referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers in Putrajaya on June 4,” he said here on Monday night (June 8).
Comm Ab Rahaman added the Attorney General’s Chambers directed that the suspect be charged with five counts under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16 of the same Act, for committing sexual assault against a child.
“The suspect will also face two charges under Section 292 of the Penal Code for possession of obscene materials, He is scheduled to be charged at the Sessions Court here,” he said.
