Players in fisheries sector reeling it in

PUTRAJAYA: Entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector under the MyAgropreneur Perikanan (myAP) programme have achieved average annual sales totalling nearly RM63mil from 2021 to the present.

The Fisheries Department said its statistics indicate an average increase in the small and medium enterprise (SME) output of entrepreneurs involved in myAP.

“This programme aims to strengthen the position of SMEs in the fisheries sector through various support and capacity-building efforts.

“The myAP entrepreneurs have shown significant growth, achieving an annual sales value of RM62.69mil across 230 myAP participants,” it said in a statement yesterday, reported Bernama.

According to the department, the myKomuniti Perikanan (myKP) programme, involving 246 participants with 6,522 members, has successfully generated annual income of RM28.9mil.

This “reflects the effectiveness of fisheries entrepreneurship programmes in enhancing productivity and competitiveness among local entrepreneurs.

“The department remains committed to supporting the development of this sector through various programmes and initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan,” it added.
