Missing hikers found safe at midnight on Gertak Sanggul Hill

BALIK PULAU: Five hikers who went missing at Gertak Sanggul Hill have been found safe.

Rescuers from the Balik Pulau fire station aided by Gertak Sanggul and Pulau Betong voluntary firemen safely brought out the five stranded hikers at about midnight on Saturday (Nov 2), three hours after they went missing.

"The hikers, all Malaysians, were successfully located by rescuers and saved," said Bayan Lepas assemblyman Datuk Azrul Mahathit Aziz in a Facebook post.

He advised hikers to take proper precautions to reduce the risk of getting lost, start their hikes early in the morning and descend by 7pm, adding that it gets dark early at this time of the year.

He said there have been similar incidents occurring lately, requiring rescues.
