Dec 3 mention date for case of religious teacher charged with sexual assault of child

SEREMBAN: The Sessions Court here has fixed Dec 3 for next mention in the case of a 43-year-old religious teacher facing three counts of physical sexual assault against a child.

Judge Surita Budin made the ruling after DPP Nurul Balkis Zunaidi told the court that the medical report related to the case was not ready.

Nurul Balkis said all other relevant reports, exhibits and photographs were ready and would be handed over to the defence team.

Mohd Hafidz Eshak claimed trial to the charges on Sept 18.

He allegedly committed the offences against the girl in March, June and August this year at a house and a religious centre in Port Dickson.

The girl was 13 years and nine months old when the first offence was allegedly committed.

The accused, the chairman of the centre, was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

He is out on RM12,000 bail and ordered to stay away from the victim.

He also has to report to the nearest police station once a month and surrender his passport, if any, to the court.

The accused was represented by Ardelliza Izmaryanti.
