11 reports made over missing pilot training funds

KUALA LUMPUR: Eleven reports have been lodged against a company over the alleged misappropriation of RM2.4mil in pilot training funds.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said police had received a report from Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) against the company.

“The funds were supposed to be paid to an overseas aviation academy. The losses are estimated at RM2.4mil,” he said in a statement.

Comm Ramli said 10 other police reports had been lodged by trainee pilots.

“We are investigating this under Section 409 of the Penal Code,” he said.

The section deals with criminal breach of trust by a public servant or agent.

In a statement last Wednesday, Mara said it had lodged a police report and initiated legal proceedings against those involved.

Mara explained that it started a partnership with an aviation organisation in 2018 to produce skilled trainee pilots.

It said this collaboration successfully placed 39 Malaysians in the Commercial Pilot Licence programme at the Czech Aviation Training Centre in the Czech Republic.

Recent reports noted that a Malaysia-based company was entrusted with carrying out financial transactions with the Czech training centre.
