‘Influencer’ Adeline fined RM7,000 for offensive post

PETALING JAYA: Social media “influencer” Adeline Chang has been fined RM7,000 for posting a photograph of a minor online and captioning it with offensive remarks.

Adeline, 24, was charged at the Sepang Sessions Court under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, which is punishable by up to one year’s imprisonment, a maximum fine of RM50,000, or both upon conviction.

The post was seen on June 1 at 8am at MCMC Tower 1, Jalan Impact, in Cyberjaya, according to Bernama.

She pleaded guilty to the charge.

Adeline arrived for her hearing with her fellow “influencer” sister Alice Chang.

She also asked for her phone to be returned, but was instead told she needed to file a formal application through her lawyer.

Earlier, the hearing was disrupted as Adeline said she could not follow the court proceedings in Malay, despite indicating to her lawyer Muhammad Rhastdan Abdul Wahab that she understood the national language.

She requested a Chinese interpreter, forcing the court to halt the proceedings.

After the charge was read out in Mandarin, she pleaded guilty. She also paid the fine.

Alice, meanwhile, also took a share of the limelight when she told reporters at the court that she was pregnant with the child of an unnamed Datuk Seri.

“Since the Datuk Seri is a married man, please don’t make it public,” she said.
