Foreign man arrested for trying to kidnap child in Sungai Buloh

SUNGAI BULOH: A foreign national's attempt to kidnap a child was stopped when he was caught by passers-by at Kampung Bunga Raya, Kuang here on Tuesday (Oct 22).

Sinar Harian reported that Sungai Buloh OCPD Supt Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct 23) that a 47-year-old local woman reported the incident.

"The complainant reported hearing her neighbour's cries for help around 12.40 pm, claiming someone was trying to take her child.

She went to her neighbour's house and saw the suspect attempting to flee, but he was chased down by the locals and captured near a garbage disposal area," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

Investigations revealed that the kidnapping involved a two-year-old boy in the living room of a house, and the suspect appeared to act alone.

"The suspect claimed to be a cleaner before trying to kidnap the child and was caught approximately 500 meters from the scene," he said.

Supt Mohd Hafiz said that the suspect was handed over to the police for further action, and an investigation paper was initiated under Section 363 of the Penal Code.

"Those with information are urged to contact the nearest police station or Investigating Officer Inspector Mohamad Azammudin Mohd Razib at 016-5661597," he added.

Earlier, social media posts circulated showing a foreign individual being detained by the public after allegedly attempting to kidnap a child.
