Federal Territories Fatwa Committee to rule on GISB

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Fatwa Committee will decide on the status of the doctrine by GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISB) during its meeting on Thursday, said Federal Territories mufti Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Luqman Abdullah.

He stated that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the issue.

“We will hold a fatwa meeting on Oct 24 specifically to discuss the issue of GISB, whether it will be gazetted as deviant or otherwise,” he said when met by reporters after the launch of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council’s Laptop Aid Scheme at the Federal Territories Mosque yesterday.

Asked about deviant teachings in the Federal Territories, Luqman said more than 20 groups have been detected and a “fatwa” (edict) was issued, Bernama reported.

In response to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar who stated that Muslims should manage differences of opinion politely, Luqman stated that the community must adhere to certain “fatwas” to prevent conflict.

“We all have our views, but at the end of the day we have to comply with the decision issued by the fatwa institution,” he said.

So far, Melaka, Perlis, Selangor, Sabah and Penang have declared the beliefs and teachings of GISB as deviant.
