Cops find drugs on foreigner nabbed in Tawau


KOTA KINABALU: A foreign man who tried to evade arrest during a narcotics operation in the Tawau district has been nabbed after a brief scuffle with the police.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said in the 2.05pm incident on Monday (Oct 7), a team of policemen conducting Ops Tapis at Mile 1, Apas Road, when the man on a motorcycle appeared.

He said when the team identified themselves as policemen, the man turned aggressive and tried to escape on his motorcycle.

A scuffle ensued and the 21-year-old threw aside two plastic bags which were later recovered and contained an unknown substance, which was later found to be drugs, ACP Jasmin said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 8).

He said the suspect would be detained for seven days while police try to locate the source of drugs and find out if there is a wider network of drug dealers involved.

He said the suspect tested negative for drugs and did not have a criminal record.
