Flood victims in Johor decrease as centres close, 300 return home


JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor is declining, with over 300 people permitted to return home between noon and 4pm on Monday (Oct 7).

According to the state disaster management committee, 530 individuals from 147 families are currently seeking refuge in flood relief centres located in Kluang, Pontian and Batu Pahat as of 4pm on Monday (Oct 7).

"The number of flood victims has decreased from 891 at noon to 530 by 4pm.

“We have also shut down four flood relief centres in Kluang and opened up one in Pontian. There are currently eight active centres statewide," read the statement.

Kluang remains the district with the highest number of flood victims, affecting 318 people.

This is followed by Pontian with 197 people and Batu Pahat with 15 people affected.

The statement noted that rainfall was also reported in Segamat, Tangkak, and Kulai, while cloudy weather prevailed in Pontian and Johor Baru.
