Worker falls 50m during maintenance work near Langkawi cable car


LANGKAWI: A worker performing maintenance work on the Eagle's Nest Skywalk here, next to the Cable Car on top the hill, fell off a platform.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Mohd Zamri Abd Ghani said the victim, identified as Khairul Nizam Jaffar, 41, was tasked to conduct maintenance work at the second level before he fell.

Mohd Zamri said the department was alerted of the incident at about 1.15pm Thursday.

"The victim fell to the bottom from a height of between 40 to 50m.

"Weather was good, with no heavy rain during the incident," he said.

The status of the victim has yet to be ascertained at press time, as rescuers are attempting to approach and recover the victim.
