Three killed in pileup on highway


KUANTAN: Three men died while five others were injured in a seven-vehicle pileup that took place along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway.

A spokesman for the state Fire and Rescue Department said they received an emergency call at 4.13am yesterday, alerting them of a fatal accident involving four cars, a lorry and two trailers.

The crash at KM42 of the highway involved 13 people, comprising nine men and four women.

“Upon arrival, our rescue personnel proceeded to free the victims from the wrecked vehicles. They also put out a fire on a trailer,” he said, Bernama reported.

He said the three victims were identified as Mohd Ridzuan Zulkafly, 40, Muhamad Zaimi Shariff, 39, and Muhammad Azizul Fitrie Md Zairi, 23.

Their remains were handed over to the police for further action.

He added that the injured victims, comprising two women and three men, were sent to a hospital for treatment. Five others in the crash were not hurt.
