Johor Barisan's move to contest state election independently not a betrayal of unity govt, says Zambry

PETALING JAYA: Johor Barisan Nasional's decision to contest the upcoming state election independently does not mean that Barisan Nasional is betraying the Federal Government, says Barisan secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Zambry said that Barisan maintains that the understanding and foundation behind the formation of the ruling coalition after the 15th General Election was based on national responsibility to prevent Malaysia from descending into prolonged political turmoil.

He added that this understanding was agreed upon to remain until the end of the current term.

"Barisan Nasional Malaysia respects the position voiced by Johor Barisan Nasional regarding its direction and preparations for the upcoming state election, in line with the views of all component parties within Johor Barisan Nasional," he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 19).

"Therefore, there is no question of Barisan Nasional betraying the Unity Government," he added.

Zambry said that Barisan would continue playing its role in preserving government stability and safeguarding the wellbeing of the people.
