Mahkota polls: Cops confirm BN candidate has no criminal record, says Zahid

KLUANG: Barisan Nasional's Mahkota candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah has no criminal or court case as claimed, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In making a final appeal to voters before polling day, the Umno president and Barisan chairman said he had met with Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar, who confirmed the matter.

"I hope that the people will not forget candidate number one (Syed Hussien).

"Do not listen to those who are disappointed, perhaps because they (Perikatan Nasional) feel that their candidate is not as good as Syed Hussien," he told the crowd in his speech during the closing ceremony of the MYFutureJobs Orang Mahkota career fair here.

On Thursday (Sept 26), Perikatan's Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, claimed that he had obtained police reports that Syed Hussien was involved in a fight.

In a statement following the accusation, Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said that Syed Hussien has no criminal record.

However, Chegubard later doubled down on his claims and also revealed the identity of the policeman who made the apparent arrest.

Syed Hussien is facing off against Perikatan candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar in the Mahkota by-election, with polling set for Saturday (Sept 28).
