Raids carried out in five Johor districts

KLUANG: Business premises owned by Global Ikhwan Service and Business Holdings (GISB) in five districts across Johor have been raided, says Johor Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Fared Mohd Khalid.

He said the operation, part of Ops Global, was conducted in collaboration with the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ) and the state Welfare Department.

“The five districts that have been identified as the areas of focus for GISB are Mersing, Kluang, Segamat, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.

“The Inspector-General of Police will provide an official statement with more details soon,” Mohd Fared told a press conference yesterday.

He added that children who were rescued during the operation are now under the care of the Johor Welfare Department.

“We have found materials related to Aurad Muhammadiyah, as well as new materials that may be related to banned teachings.

“However, we need to investigate further to confirm any connections,” he said.

The Aurad Muhammadiah teachings practised by the Al-Arqam group had been declared contrary to the beliefs of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah.

When asked if Johor would follow Perlis in issuing a fatwa to ban GISB, Mohd Fared said this matter would be studied first.
