Selangor cops have kept religious bodies updated on GISB

KLANG: Selangor police have been sharing information on Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) with religious bodies “since early on”, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The state police chief said intelligence on the case had been shared with the Selangor Islamic Religious Council and Selangor Islamic Religious Department.

“What I can stress is cooperation with both regarding activities in Selangor has been ongoing,” he said after attending an event in conjunction with the Selangor Police Integrity Half Marathon 2024 held here yesterday.

Comm Hussein said he would meet with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to provide a briefing once he is summoned. His comments came after the Selangor Royal Office conveyed His Royal Highness’ disappointment and regret over the lack of effective action taken against GISB.

On Sept 19, police detained 19 individuals, including GISB’s chief executive officer, his wife and others, during raids on four residential units along Jalan Imbi. The 12 men and seven women have been remanded until Wednesday.

On Sept 11, police rescued 402 children, aged one to 17, from 20 care homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan during an operation dubbed Ops Global.

Allegations of abuse, exploitation and sexual assault involving the children have surfaced, leading to the arrest of 171 suspects, including a teacher and dormitory caretakers.

On a separate matter, Comm Hussein said there was no evidence of foul play in the death of singer Muhammad Nidza Afham Mokhtar.

“We did not find any signs of crime. Investigations are almost complete,” he said.

Muhammad Nidza was last seen leaving a house in Bandar Puteri on Aug 13 and was found dead at the Kota Bridge about a day later. The 23-year-old singer gained popularity for his cover songs on social media, particularly on his YouTube channel where his cover of Rindu Setengah Mati has nearly seven million views.
