Girl, 4, found drowned in Tawau river

KOTA KINABALU: Rescuers have found the remains of a four-year-old girl some 14 hours after she was washed away by strong currents while crossing a river with her father in Sabah’s Tawau district on Saturday (Sept 21).

The body of Putri Jimar was found some 800m from where she was reported missing at Kampung Ranggu, off Mile 8 Jalan Apas at 6.06pm the day before.

Tawau Fire and Rescue station chief Jemishin Ujin said they resumed the search for the victim for the second day together with villagers and other agencies at 6.58am.

“The body was found at about 8am. We have handed over the body to the police for the next course of action,” he added.

Jemishin said the operation ended at 8.30am.
